Yes it is possible to make back up versions of Nintendo Wii games, and yes i believe the Wii has to be modded.
And to make a backup, i assume you just copy the disc and burn to a new one. -

Is it possible to copy Wii games? Hell yeah it is possible I have been copying and playing copied Wii games for about 6 months now.
Is it possible to copy Wii games without a mod chip? Well the short answer is yes! It is possible to copy and play copied Wii games without a mod chip.
In fact anybody can copy Wii games as long as you have a DVD burner.
There are some guides out there about how to copy Wii games without a mod chip. Then there are just as many that will want you to go and get a mod chip. I decided to take the without a mod chip approach myself. Mostly because I am scared of opening my Wii.
